We usually think of charity, compassion, humility, wisdom, honor, justice, and other virtues as morally good and pleasure as, at best, morally neutral, but for Epicurus, behavior in pursuit of pleasure assured an upright life. If everyone believed in Epicureanism, there would be no such thing as police, firemen, or EMS. Everyone would be worrying about himself or herself and would die. Another immoral pleasure according to Epicurus would be if the amount of pain outweighs the amount of pleasure. An example of this would be sexual intercourse (short-term pleasure) which could lead to pregnancy (long-term pain).Epicurus believed that the bad thoughts of death were said to be immoral because it causes pain (anxiety) rather than pleasure. The number one aspect of life Epicurus and his followers strive to avoid is, pain. Epicureans believe that if one avoids all pain, he is wise and will live worry free. He talks about the issue of death and how people feel anxiety when the thought crosses their minds. Epicurus believes that death is an empty belief, which is empty pain, and proves the outlook on death to be unrealistic. Before birth we were non-existent, Epicurus tells us to think of how much pain we felt during Pearl Harbor, since we weren’t born yet, we didn’t feel any pain. When we die, Epicurus argues, we will be non-existent therefore, since we there wasn’t any pain before birth we won’t feel pain after death. When you die there is no sensation because there is no body, which means there is no pain, and because pain is not present; we should not fear death. I am a catholic and believe in eternity. I disagree with Epicurus because I feel the eternal soul, would either go to purgatory, hell, limbo and eventually heaven.An aspect that contains a combination of each topic ...
