We must realize that any model is just that, a model. Anyone willing to make the appropriate observations can see for themselves whether any particular claim about the structure of the universe is true or not. No one has to take anybody's word for anything. No scientific claim can be conclusively confirmed, however, because there will always be a more comprehensive theory to follow it, and perhaps disprove it or encompass it.
