Descartes Meditation One

three arguments, each larger than the next, Descartes is satisfiedthat he has adequately disproved the previous argument. Since he has done this heis now ready to lay down a new foundation of knowledge and find the truth. This passage reminds me of the movie The Matrix, in that God acts as thecomputers did in the Matrix. Descartes is trying to free his mind as Neo had to dobecause the computers only let Neo see what they wanted him to by altering hissenses, just like Descartes believes God is doing to him.The reason why I dont particularly like this essay by Descartes is because Ifeel that his argument is weak and ridiculous at the same time. Descartes claims,or at least says for purpose of argument that in order to find the real truth he mustnot trust anything that he was taught or knows because his senses deceive him. Fine lets assume that our senses do deceive us, and that there really is a big, allpowerful, evil genius of a God. It would be impossible to ever find out the truthand that's what bothers me about this argument.Our senses deceive us. Everything we see, taste, smell, hear and feel are allfalse. If this were the case it would be impossible to ever find out the truthbecause every piece of information and every belief, thought, and emotion comesfrom one of our senses. And if on top of that, if God was all powerful anddeceiving there would be absolutely nothing we could to obtain the truth. Something that is all powerful, has control over every thought, belief and idea thatwe have. And if Descartes believes this then he must believe that this deceivingGod is putting the idea in his brain that if he ignores his senses he will obtaintruth. If his God is deceiving and all powerful then he will never discover truth. Descartes tries an alternative way to look at reality, the initial idea and theconcept as a whole (looking at reality from a different perspective) is a veryinteresting one.
