Theory
Theory running this ad in the paper, this newspaper is taking a major part in the small election taking place in a small town. Voters that read this ad and decide to attend the debate may very well make their decision on who they vote for from what they hear at the event. If not for this ad, they might have never heard of or attended the debate and might have not voted at all, or they could have missed information that would change their mind on the person they planned to vote for. If a voter decides to submit a question, the men involved in the debate will discuss things the voters specifically want to hear their opinions on. By doing that the paper has given each individual voter a voice in the debate. The next thing the article relates to are economic interest groups. The article is sponsored by the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce, making it part of an economic interest group. Since it gives both candidates equal coverage and does not favor either one of them, it is not directly influencing who the voter will vote for. By actually going to the debate, the voter’s decision on whom to vote for will be affected by either confirming his decision or changing his mind. The El Dorado Chamber of Commerce obviously thinks this election is important to business by sponsoring this ad in the paper and striving for more political involvement from the people. The last thing to discuss that the article relates to is debates. By having a debate, the candidates are giving the public a chance to get an up close and personal view of who they are voting for and what they stand for. Giving them a chance to submit a question is a direct way for them to communicate to the public their ideas on subjects that the public deems important. Debates usually draw more viewers than other campaigning events, also. People who usually do not pay attention to politics may decide to when they read this ad, since debates draw more attention than other methods of campaigning such as commercials or signs. Personally, I think that giving the public a way of submitting their own questions is a great idea. It is a way of getting personal with each voter without actually talking face to face Bibliography:
