fdfd The people who found and built Panda Express, the largest Chinese restaurant chain in history, are asking themselves, what do you do after you succeed? They feel the answer is to succeed more. Andrew and Peggy Cherng made Panda Express from a single Pasadena place to a national money maker with 423 restaurants in 34 states, with about 5,000 employees and about $300 million in sales yearly. Now the husband and wife team wants to build Panda Express into a much bigger company, wanting to make Chinese food definitely in the center of the American diet. Andrew would like to see 10,000 stores, And those ambitious plans haven't changed since the terrorist attacks Sept. 11. Panda group's business at its outlets in shopping malls and at airports has been down a lot in the last three weeks. But the company still expects sales to grow at least 5% to 6% this year and is going ahead with eight store openings that are scheduled in November in Atlanta and other cities in Georgia. In all, Panda Express will be opening 80 new stores this year, but the Cherngs are thinking about certain moves that might effect the company, such as franchising or selling shares to the public, that would allow Panda Express to grow much larger. As a model, Cherng looks at the Starbucks coffee chain, which is opening its 5,000th store after 30 years in business. Bibliography:
