Everything
Everything I was born and raised in America. I have learned how to live here and what to expect. There is always a way to make it to the top in America and there is always someone worse off then you. These are all simple concepts people pick up after experiencing life in this country for an extended period of time. This is how we see life. If I was coming from another country, perhaps a third world country, and the only things I knew about America were what I had heard from inexperienced ears, I would see all of this in a very different way. For example, I am a man of my present age from Haiti, where I have lived my entire life. All I know is the Haitian way of living, the Haitian government, and Haitian employment. When visiting this country, it would amaze me how Americans can take so much freedom and happiness for granted and simply long for more. A minute percentage of the population, compared to Haiti, lives in poverty, and the rest get the royal treatment. Although a Haitian would give anything for a life of the like, an American would simply trade it all for just a little bit more. A week spent in America would quickly change the previous views of American culture and society. We might look at ourselves as ambitious but we would be looked upon as scavengers in the top five percent. This is fitting because many Americans make up that top five percent. Being a Haitian, I contribute to that bottom fifty, who will make less in their lives then the top five percent will in the next 365 days. America could easily show an outsider that the world is not a fair place. We only make it worse through vanity and greed. No one else will ever get ahead if we cannot find a way to get ahead of ourselves and help. The simplest solution is always the one we avoid. It is not uncommon, but it is very American. We want it all. In the past, if one country was suffering and another, who it was not allied with, was flying high, it was just too bad. We are supposed to be humanitarians now. We are all children under God. I do not think that many foreign terrorists are insane, but I do believe many of them have been to America. Bibliography: Union Leader
