"To His Coy Mistress" by Andrew Marvel is a poem that I would really like to take and shove in down his throat. Any woman who falls for a man like this is either very lonely or just plain stupid. He is telling a woman about how beautiful and lovely she is; how he can't help the fact that he loves her so much. But the whole poem isn't about his undying love for her, but all about how much time he has to get her into bed. It is a Carpe Diem, seize the day, poem."That longed-preserved virginity,And your quaint honor turned to dust,And into ashes all my lust"This line tells her that she will die a virgin if she doesn't sleep with him. After reading this, I wonder if she actually did. What is wrong with being a virgin? I would be insulted after reading this. The idea of giving up your virginity in this time period wasn't proper."Thus, though we cannot make our sunStand still, yet we will make him run"The "sun" in this line represents his time, her love, and their lives. They cannot stop or pause their time, love and lives, and they could be dead tomorrow. So, instead, they should just get in bed and get done with what they need to do. Women should not fall for a man who says these things, although I can see where most women would....
