To the VIrgins To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time This poem is written by Robert Herrick. It is a lyrical poem because it expresses a feeling. The author is trying to express to us the signifigance of time. He tells us that what is good today may not be good tomorrow. He is also saying that we should do things or accomplish things while we are young and energetic. The poem has a hidden meaning, it is speaking about marriage and virginity. It is saying that we should get married and enjoy ourselves before that age to find someone is gone. The author uses personification because the objects that he uses in the poem have living qualities. An example is: a flower that smiles today may die tomorrow. The poem also has a rhyme scheme of ABAB. In the first stanza, the author tells us to gather the rosebuds because they might be good today, but tomorrow they might die. He’s trying to tell us not to waste time. In the second stanza, he says that the sun is the lamp of the heaven and that it will soon be setting. In the last two stanzas, the author is urging us to enjoy youth but to not let it get away from us and if possible to marry when one is young and at the right time of their life. Bibliography:
