We Are Seven

In "We are Seven" the poet discourses with a child, a simple girl who explains to the poet that among the seven children of her family she includes the two that "in the churchyard lie." That is, she does not recognize death as a separation or loss; she resists the logic of the poet who counts only fiving children. Insisting on her own count, she makes the more adult view of the poet seem ultimately less wise than her own....
