Senator paper
Senator paper Nevada State Senators: John Ensign and Harry Reid John Ensign was born on March 25, 1958, a Christian boy in Roseville California. He attended and graduated from E.W. Clark High School in northern Nevada. He then went on to attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, then on to Oregon State University where he earned a Bachelor‘s degree in 1985, Corvallis, and finally onto Colorado State University, Fort Collins, where he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He is now married to Darlene Sciarett and has three children: Trevor, Siena and Michael. John’s professional job is a veterinarian. He has also held the of U.S. Congressman, U.S. Senator (1987-1994), he is the owner of the West Flamingo Animal Hospital, South Shores Animal Hospital, in Las Vegas, served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, and now has a State Senator seat in the U.S. Senate for the 107th Congress. John Ensign (Republican) was first elected in 1987. He served two consecutive terms. John has also now been recently voted back into the Senator position in the last 2000-year election. Nevadans have enjoyed John’s energetic style and message of his smaller government that he tries to portray. He has worked at lowering taxes and reducing spending. Harry has a strong stance against crime, and is committed to reducing wasteful government spending. Time magazine called Reid the “Decisive breakthrough” in Congress welfare reform. Ensign’s efforts have helped more people move from welfare dependency to the workforce. He has also battled to defeat the Nuclear Waste Policy Act, which would ship tons of radioactive waste to Nevada. He fought hard against large and powerful nuclear industries, and also leaders of his own party. Reid also is a huge supporter of saving Medicare from bankruptcy. He provides Medicare coverage for annual mammograms for senior women and has also initiated a fundraising drive in 1997 to purchase a mobile mammography van for rural Nevada, and kicked off the donations with $1000 from his own pockets. Ensign has also been recognized as a big contender in tax reform and favors a concrete deadline for the elimination of the current tax code. He has also worked on strong belief in laws ordering prisoners to work while serving time and pay restitution to their victims. Along with this program he has tried to eliminate pornography in prisons. John Ensign has been apart of many political committees’ throughout his career. He has been a member of the Special Committee on Aging, Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs. He has also been a member on the Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee along with Small Business Committees. I would have to say that John Ensign is a Conservative with his opinions upon Government, and the issues he tries to deal with. I feel this fits him well, cause I get the feeling he a man that most people would call normal, he is not too easygoing, nor too strict. He is open to decisions but still has his mind goal oriented for the better of everyone. Harry Reid was born on December 2, 1939. He was born in Searchlight, Nevada. Harry grew up with a strong Mormon background. He graduated and attended Basic High School, where he met his future wife. Through 1983-1987 Reid went on to attended Utah St. University and received a Bachelors Science Degree and he also attended George Washington University. Harry’s first profession is an attorney at law. He has also served as Nevada’s Lt. Governor, Gaming Commission. U.S. House. Harry Reid married in 1962 to his wife Landra and has five children: Lana Rory, Leif, Josh, and Key. Harry’s family has always been his main priority even through his busy work schedule. Today Harry and his wife are proud grandparents of nine grandchildren. He was elected to State senator in 1986 and is now on his third term. He won the last election with a percentage of 48% representing the Democratic Party. Reid provides valuable leadership to the U.S. Senate by securing votes to pass key measures. Harry has been respected by the Washington Publications in writing “Senator Reid has quietly elevated a long dormant post.” He has earned the trust of both democrats and Republicans, and his reputation for integrity and fairness has given the state of Nevada a strong voice in Congress. Reid through out his career has constantly fought for the rights of interests of children, families, and workers in education. Reid has worked in hiring more qualified teachers in Nevada and has fought for the patient’s Bill of Rights as well as increased funding for cancer research, suicide prevention and mental health initiatives. Reid has also worked on keeping Nevada’s environment clean and improving upon it. He has done this by establishing programs to preserve clean air and water, especially in the Lake Tahoe region. Harry Reid has also been active in a multiple of Committee’s. He has been a member of the Special Committee on Aging, Appropriations, Environment and Public Works, a select committee on Ethics. He has also had the Vice Chair on Indian Affairs. I feel that Harry Reid is apart of the libertarians. He is an easygoing man who feels that freedom is the key. He only really wants to step in on key issues that affect a lot of people. I doesn’t want interfere, but his goal is to help. People become aware of problems and helping to try to fix them.
