Why Terrorists Attack the US
Why Terrorists Attack the US Why are terrorist attacks happening in the United States? Terrorism is the use of physical violence whether it be a threat or an actual act of aggression. They create a common surrounding of fear in a selected target of the population. This is done so that they may provoke some kind of political and/or social change. Since the terrorist attacks on September 11th 2001, there has been a lot of controversy on why terrorist attacks are so frequent in the United States. By doing some research I have found that there are several possible answers to this question. This paper will explore the possibilities and hopefully help America prevent future attacks. While researching this topic, it has come to my attention that the most common reason these attacks occur is that there are a large number of radical groups in the United States with anti-modern ideologies stemming from their extremist religious beliefs. Not only do the terrorists who believe in these religions “feel the need to preserve their religious identity, they also see this time as an opportunity to fundamentally shape the future”(Ranstorp). Going along with the idea of radical groups, I believe the existence of militant group leaders such as Bin Laden, the Unabomber, etc. is another possible variable for terrorist attacks. The presence of radical groups and the existence of radical leaders are basically the same due to the fact that the radical groups need leaders. In regards to the September 11th incident as well as many others, people believe that the security at airports and other public buildings, especially landmarks, was inefficient. Perhaps the lack of security may be another possibility as to why terrorism is becoming more frequent. Other quite possible reasons may be due to the media. If there were no news reporters, there would be no point in the terrorists doing what they do because it will not effect as many people. The only reason why terrorists do these awful deeds is to put people in fear. For example, the Trench Coat Mafia, the young white supremacists responsible for the shooting at Columbine High School in 1999, did what they did so that they could die one of the most remembered radical groups in the world and now they are because of the vast media coverage of the event. They also did this to put “jocks” and “popular” kids in fear of the quiet and non-conformists. Surprisingly enough, soon after this incident high school surveys showed that all different types of students have been getting along. The Trench Coat Mafia had accomplished their goal in more ways than one. There are many other radical groups and radical group leaders in the United States. One of the most popular radical group leaders is Osama Bin Ladin. He is a leader of more than one group. The infamous Osama Bin Ladin has been in the terrorism game for a long time. He is the son of a billionaire Saudi family, Bin Ladin is said to have inherited approximately $300 million. Bin Ladin established a group entitled Al-Qaida in the late 1980s. He uses his fortune to finance this group. Al-Qaida makes their own money by soliciting donations from supporters and illegitimately siphoning funds from donations to Muslim charitable orginizations. This group’s goal was to overthrow regimes which they deemed “non-Islamic” as well as diminishing Westerners and non-Muslims from Muslim countries. Their hopes is that, with their group of several hundred or even several thousand men, they can change the society to Islamic regimes and only Muslims in Muslim.
