Communication

sed in todays society. There is several different strategies used in the book as well as this one, some people just use some more than others. Another aspect that plays a role in effective gender communication is your values. Your values play a big role in what you stand for and what you believe in. Values are what you perceive to be important in your life and how you will guide yourself to achieve your goals. Todays values are especially different from values of the past and are always changing. One final aspect that I believe is critical to gender communication is your attitude. Everyone has their own unique attitude on how we look at things or handle certain situations. Attitudes also change just as values do as personal experiences grow. Obviously your attitude is going to reflect your personality on how you communicate in between genders. Many times gender stereotyping occurs because of the attitudes that people hold. Some people are very open that women today are changing and that their role in society is different from what it was 10 years ago. Look around today, we have women that are firefighters, in the navy, wrestlers, and pro athletes. Guys also have changed their roles. We have male cheerleaders, hairdressers, nurses, and stay home dads. This just shows us how we have changed to accept many things that werent socially acceptable before but are now.I think that these questions raised in this piece contributes to greater interpersonal effectiveness by making you think more before you make assumptions about other people. It makes you consider the way you act and how society controls your preconceived notions of other people. Even if this were pointed out to everyone that this is the way we are acting, many people would just move forward and go on with their daily routine. I believe that these questions need to be raised so that it can show us our values, attitudes, and the way we act in our society today....
