It is hard for many seniors to keep up with the changes in their routines that technology creates, or compete in the job market without a technical background. A hand-written résumé is no longer acceptably for almost any job. Therefore, computer or word processing skills are needed to even apply for a position. Not to mention how technologically focused the job market is becoming. The mental process grows weaker with age, and it becomes harder to learn new things, such as: emailing, the Internet, credit card transactions, computer use, vehicle operation (newer vehicles are become more technically advanced), home appliances, entertainment systems, and more. Most people use many different forms of technology to complete everyday tasks. Microwaves no longer have dials that are simply turned to the correct time. Today’s microwaves with many buttons, which are designed to assist the average user, would be especially hard to read or operate with failing eyesight. The same goes for almost any newer home appliance. The elderly must either keep up with changing technology in their homes and lives, or avoid it.
