Without frame of reference there is nomeaning to life. Identity is the next out of the four needs ofmans' social life which is when you know who you are andwhat you stand for. With identity you have to establish yourown uniqueness or identity. Recognizing differences inothers help you to find your own identity. Next comestranscendence which is rarely achieved and this means torise above societies conformities in order to be anindividual. With transcendence there is a risk of losing yourrelatedness, and for this not to happen relatedness mustallow you rise above society. A conflict of freedom andloneliness means that the more that we becometranscendent the more we lose the relatedness. I agree withFromm when he states that society corrupts man. I also feelthat the conscious mind dominates over the unconscious. Ido not agree that man is 100% social either. When Frommsays that the four needs of social life are relatedness, frameof reference, identity, and transcendence I could not agreewith more. Everyday you see people that have to be wellconnected in the social pipeline and without it I do not thinkthey would function normally. There are plenty of peoplethat have to be liked and be in a certain group in order tobe mentally stable. People think it is a bad thing when youare not in the popular group or not cool enough to be likedand accepted by a certain group. I also do feel that thereare some people who know who they are and what theystand for. These are the people that survive the longest isthe long run because they know who they are and they willnot change for anything.
