Prozac

medication that rather than boost brainlevels of seretonin like Prozac and other SSRI’s, actually blocks seretonin receptors in the brain. In most cases where nausea, insomnia, and other mild side effects occur however, “agitationusually subsides in 24 to 48 hours.” (Prozac)No drug is without side effects. The question posed to the patient is simply whether ornot the benefits outweigh the side effects. As with most other psychological medications andtreatments Prozac is not a cure all. “Far from being a ‘magic bullet’ or overnight cure, Prozac issimply one more useful tool in treating depression.” (Understanding Prozac) One Prozac userstated, “ I do not take it to get happy, but to get out of bed. It does not solve my problems, butgives me the strength to tackle the problems.” (Understanding Prozac) Another Prozac userdescribes the drug under a different light, “ Benign apathy is the phrase I most readily apply tobeing on Prozac; a vague sense that there is a padded wall between me and all those ambitions(unfulfilled, passively unsought, yet persistently gnawing) which have plagued and smitten me forall my self-conscious life.” (Banishing the Cream-n-Green Bullets) Prozac like all other drugsreacts differently with different people. It could be because of body chemistry, or mind set whenbeginning to take the drug. Whatever the case, while some people will argue that Prozac is tooreadily available, and too quickly prescribed, others will tell you how great their lives became as aresult of this “miracle drug.” Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. No one study can tell youwhether Prozac will benefit you, all you can do is try. Even with all the bad media though one isleft wondering, can twenty million people worldwide be wrong?...
