Field Experiment: Food Tasting Preparation: Cut food into very small slice to facilitate direct swallowing without chewing 1.Pinch nose with clothes hanger while consuming food 2.Not allowed to chew during consumption He was very skeptical at first but soon relaxed. He was not able to tell the difference between the Pear, Apple or Potato, however he was able to tell the Onion from all other foods. Second Test Friend #2: He was able to tell the Potato from the Apple, but not the Pear from the Apple, furthermore he was not able to discern the difference between the Onions from any other foods. My Observations:The results are predictable in many ways. Both participants to some degree displayed an inability to correlate the taste, texture, and smell of particular foods to the actual food, mainly because the senses that create relationships were effectively neutralized. Chapter 3 describes how the senses of taste and smell are closely related, and the flavor of a food is strongly tied to it aroma. The results above seem to bear that out. ...
