At the trial, the district attorney cross- examined Herbert Mullin about the Perez killing: Q: Who decided to kill Mr. Perez, Mr. Mullin? A: Martin W. Mullin. Q: You mean that you were instructed as to how to go about this killing, then, by the voice? A: The thought I heard that morning was, "Don't deliver a stick of it [the firewood) until you kill somebody." Q: Would it be fair to say that every decision made there- after was yours?
