nce is two opposite feelings or emotions about a situation or object at the same time(Gallaghel 62). This is what also helps link the idea of a “split personality” with schizophrenia. Besides the four “A’s” are many other symptoms that can belong to different cases of schizophrenia. Schizophrenia almost always leads to problems in communication and relationships for the patient. Hallucinations also bring on great troubles for the schizophrenic because of things being heard, seen, or even felt when they do not actually exist. These hallucinations also involve voices, which is a major symptom associated with schizophrenia(Schizophrenia.com). Some people that have been diagnosed with schizophrenia will even believe that he or she is being conspired against or have a “loss of ego boundaries.” A loss of ego boundaries refers to the patient not being able to identify others in the outside world or actually believing that he or she is controlled by external forces(Gallaghel 63). Fortunately, the understanding and treatment of schizophrenia has improved greatly(Anderson 83). With this in mind, research still remains incomplete. There are still many puzzling questions that surround the mental disorder of schizophrenia. Still, it is very important that psychiatrists and doctors are able to diagnose and treat a schizophrenic as early as possible. This is to ensure that relapses do not occur and it helps avoid hospitalization(Awad 269). With the help of drug therapy, some patients can recover from symptoms completely while others improve to a point where the can live independently. Most patients diagnosed with schizophrenia respond to this drug therapy and are able to live normal and productive lives. But because of the few that do not respond to anti-psychotic drugs there is still a need to hospitalize those with acute schizophrenia for their own safety and for research study(Schizophrenia.c...
