The victim is often known to his attacker, because of this, some believe the killer often depersonalizes his prey by disfiguring or covering the face. The disorganized killer rarely transports or conceals his kills, leaving bodies to fall where they may. It would appear at first glance, that every disorganized killer should be caught after the first or second murder, but such is not always the case. Some are blessed by circumstance remote locations or particularly unobservant neighbors so they can kill for years without detection. The polar opposite, the organized killer, possesses good intelligence and can mingle sociably. A review of this killers profile might reveal a high birth-order status, a father with stable employment and a home marked by inconsistent discipline, alternately hash, bordering on cruel to lax, virtually non-existence. The organized killer often lives with a partner, most likely a legal spouse. His violence is precipitated by stress; either marital or work related. The killer is mobile, maintaining at least one vehicle in good condition. He is controlled on the hunt and normally follows the progress of police investigations in the media or on personal police scanners. If pressed the slayer will find a new job or leave town to avoid detection. Crime scene characteristics of the organized killer betray a murder planned well in advance, reflecting the killers control. The hunter normally prefers submissive victims, strangers, often employing restraints to foil resistance during sexual assault or torture.
