This theory has been well supported in previous research (Orbell, Hidgkins, & Sheeran, 1997; Bennett & Bozionelos, 2000).Of the three theories that have been mention, the Theory of Reasoned Action is most similar to the SCT. The reason that is, it's because of the SCT states that behavior is influenced by the environment. Theory of Reasoned Action states that subjective norms must be available for a specific behavior to form. Subjective norms are outside forces of what we think others want us to do. It also mentions the fact that individuals are deliberate thinkers, which just like the SCT behavior is largely regulated through cognitive processes. These are the two that are mostly related. The only one main difference between the two theories is the different concepts that are applied to each.SCT can be applied to the scenario in many different ways since each of the concepts plays such a major part. Since cognitive processes regulate behavior, a lot of thinking has to be done to determine the behavior. In the scenario, the woman has already begun to think about being reared in the catholic family. However she also thinking about the fact the two of them have been inseparable. SCT also mentions that environment plays a big role in determining what behavior will happen. In the scenario, judging by the environment, it can be predicted that they will engage in sex with or without a condom. It is up to her to allow her personal factors to come into play to also see what her behavior will be. As far as the male, he can use the concept of forethought capability to determine what his behavior will be.
