tests 1. The primary purpose of the initial interview is to learn about the background of the individual and what some possible causes of the illness are. The initial interview also helps to gather information about the seriousness of the psychological illness, which in turn helps to make a judgment. B) Dr. Eisdorfer is trying to determine why she is there, length of time that her problems have been around, is she has anxiety, what are some of the things that are causing her to feel this way, he is exploring the depth of her problems. He is also trying to determine if her symptoms are appropriate to the situation, and if there is a potential to harm herself and or others, and what the potential for carrying out a suicide is. 2. When looking at Jessica’s thinking and behavior she shows that she is scared, distant, and anxious. We also see that she does not maintain eye contact, her answers to the questions are short, she often throughout the course of her interview shows no emotion and she is continually slumped in her chair. 3. To determine whether or not there is brain or nerve damage that is causing the symptoms in the individual. 4. My best friend was on anti depressants for about 3 weeks when she tried to kill herself by taking 23 ½ Zoloft pills. Her boyfriend and myself were the ones to take her to the hospital were she was admitted and held for three weeks. She did not show signs of depression like the people in the video. Doctors told us that they believed she had a mild case of depression and her attempt was more of an act for attention, and that we should try to talk to her about seeing someone on a regular basis. 5. Psychiatrists have medical training and have graduated medical school; in addition, they have gone through residency involving individuals with emotional problems. They are responsible for the disbursement and monitoring of medications and they may play a role in psychological assessments. Psychologists are responsible for psychological evaluations, and are looked to for a clear picture of the patient’s problems. They are sometimes involved in the patient’s treatment. Social workers are trained to specifically deal with people who are experiencing emotional problems. They are able to do thorough background and social inquires. They are also able to appraise the individual. Psychiatric Nurses are trained in nursing but have further specialization in dealing with emotional problems. All of these professionals to some extent are able to do similar things but they can not perform the same functions as one another that is why they all have training in different areas. If they all had the ability to do the same thing there would be no use for all of them. Bibliography:
