e us look like good little Christians. We read into scriptures for our own understanding just to find more evidence that we already believe and not grow closer to God's heart. Jack Reese pointed out three ways that we should look at the Bible. 1) Every passage of scripture has a context. Meaning that everything in the Bible was written for a reason. It is not just words on a page to use and to twist to understand our own situations or circumstances. It was written for a specific people in mind in the historical context that it took place in. We should ask ourselves what is the problem the text is addressing? Remember that the scripture can not mean would it could not have meant. 2) We should ask, What kind of literature is this to interpret it correctly. If it is poetry it should not be taken literally. An example that Reese gave us: a passage in the Bible that says the stars sing. Stars do not really "sing" although scientists of seen that stars emit phonic waves and people twist this information to say that the poetic part that "stars can sing" really means that they do. 3) Acknowledge that all scripture is aspired by God (but not everything is at the center). Jesus said that we should not neglect the other laws, but some things are of first importance. To us the 1st importance should be the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. We should not allow the minor things in life to bother us such as clapping in church, but we should be more focused upon our desire to serve others and to live out what we believe. Reese says that we think too high of ourselves and think that we can read the Bible and simply figure it out every passage on our own. We should not think this way, we should read into the Bible the way it was written, who it was written for, and why it was written for them, only then after that understanding can we apply the same principles to the way that God wants us to live as His people.
