Forinstance, Simons mother-in-law is cured of a fever in her home (Senior, 100) by Jesus. This shows that Jesus is willing to go to someone house to help someone out, they donthave to necessarily come to him for help. Senior also gives the example of Jesus givingthe ability to walk to a paralytic. Finally, Senior explains how Jesus heals a man with awithered hand. All of these examples show the real power that Jesus possesses. Theyalso show how Jesus doesnt care the status or faith of the person he is healing. We see how important healing is to Jesus in chapter 3 of Donald Seniors book,Jesus: A Gospel Portrait, entitled Jesus and His Own. We see this through the actionsof his disciples. What Jesus does in his healing and teaching ministry, so must hisdisciples do(Senior, 53). In Mark 6:12-13, for instance, after the evangelist has spentseveral chapters describing the ministry of Jesus, the disciples are sent off to do the samesort of marvelous activities, they expelled many demons...anointed the sick with oil,and worked cures (Senior, 53-54). Jesus also tells his disciples to make theannouncement The reign of God is at hand! Cure the sick, raise the dead, heal theleprous, expel demons. The gift you have received, give as a gift (10:7-8) when they aresent on their missions. We see that healing people is a mission for Jesus, and you dontnecessarily have to come looking for him to be healed.The idea of Jesus healing someone even if they arent the perfect person means alot to me. Knowing this gives me hope. I know now that I have not led the perfect lifeand I have made many mistakes that God would consider sins. But to know even thoughI have committed these sins and I could still be healed by Jesus means a lot to me.
