This leaves 30 percent of people polled who have beliefs outside of mainstream religion. If this is an accurate representation of the population at large, it seems that a large number of people are becoming disillusioned with the traditional Judeo-Christian demand for blind faith and are looking for a return to ancient ways that are more connected to the living world around them that they can actually perceive with their own senses.There are Witches in all walks of life, such as Sergeant First Class Ron Cole of Ft Knox, Ky. (Correro par 1), children like Brigid and Tiffany (Fox par 4 & 16), and French impressionists … who "were the first to reject the metaphysical imperative that nature was inert, spiritless" (Christensen par 3). Although Wicca is a peaceful religion, (the main creed is "An’ it harm none, do what thou wilt" (Buckland 9) and closely tied to nature and its annual seasons, Wiccans are still being persecuted today. When Ft Hood, Texas became the first military post to allow the practice of Wicca in 1997, Georgia congressman Bob Barr became "incensed at the Pentagon for allowing pagan rituals to be practiced on U.S. military bases" (Holley par2) and he says that he "intends to pursue this issue legislatively" (par8). Senator Strom Thurmond has "vowed to introduce legislation to stop the armed forces from condoning witchcraft" (Gwynne par3). Meanwhile, the local Christians are making some accusations themselves: "We believe they are satanic and that they do not deserve to have any place at Fort Hood," says Rev. ...
