It is due to their religion or belief that human brains are more than just a huge mass of cells working together in that they can experience metaphysical transformations(Wright). Elliminative materialism scares the crap out of these people which happens to be the majority of the world. Eliminative Materialism needs to be taken with an open mind. So our brain is a natural computer but it is the best and brightest computer that has evolved over thousands of years(Hinrichs). There should be nothing dehumanizing about this solution to the mind-body problem. In his book Consciousness Explained, Daniel Dennett notes, Artificial intelligence is progressing, creating smart machines that process data somewhat the way human beings do. As the trend continues it will become clearer that were all machines, that Ryles strict materialism was basically on target, that the mind-body problem is in principle solved(Wright). This summary of Dennetts book is right on the mark when computers mimic the human mind....
