. Shortly after the Allan’s return to the United States, Edgar began to support himself as he moved to Boston and worked in a merchandise house. Between then and 1827, Edgar spent his time reading literary works, writing his own works, and working odd jobs to continue supporting himself. Near June of 1827 Poe had his first work published.
