aiting for your blood. The main villain though is Huitzilopoctli, he is a really big man and they describe him as a god. He works for the Aztec people, eating a few hearts there and killing a few armies there. He is the big guy that makes a big difference in this whole story, he doesn't kill the hero but he does kill his best friends Olaf Ironfot and Ivan Swordeater both are Vikings. I was impressed with how they introduced the characters, not like a "oh look that character was put in so well I feel like jumping up and down and throwing a party tomorrow" But it was a "very good Applegate I 'm impressed with that". The only thing that disappointed me was that the characters didn't change at all through the course of the story, usually at least one or two people change attitudes or idea before then end. This story had no changing at all, I think they are saving that for the 3rd book. Wars, being lost, almost dead, almost being sacrificed and almost eaten alive was something that all the characters had to deal with. They all came through though, all healthy and well which made me a bit mad. They usually only interact with themselves since the other people speak other languages or they are incapable of speech. The conversations they have between themselves are ones of fear and deep worry. They can't wait to fall asleep and get back to the real world and they are almost in tears when they wake up again. But from all the characters my favorite has to be April, not just because she was a girl but because she did not do stupid things that got her into trouble. All the other guys went here or went there with the knowledge that they might be killed but April never did anything like that she just stayed behind. I read this book because it was a fantasy, science fiction. Myth, fantasy, humor and adventure book all pushed into 185 pages. I expected it to be very good but nobody important died.
