He and his wife are found and protected by American soldiers. Though he was considered a hero by Jews, he was persecuted in his home of Germany. Years later he passed away, poor and alone in a Frankfurt hospital. He was laid to rest in Jerusalem and a tree was planted in his honor.There is an ancient Hebrew saying which states "He who saves the life of one man saves the world entire."
