up his infamous list, containing the names of thousands of Jews. He takes these people each paid for out of Schindler's pocket, and transfers them and his factory to the Austrian town of Brimlitz. It is here they all remain, safe from harm, until the war's end; when the Jews are liberated by Soviets.Oskar runs away to escape prosecution for his involvement in the Nazi party. He and his wife are found and protected by American soldiers. Though he was considered a hero by Jews, he was persecuted in his home of Germany. Years later he passed away, poor and alone in a Frankfurt hospital. He was laid to rest in Jerusalem and a tree was planted in his honor.There is an ancient Hebrew saying which states "He who saves the life of one man saves the world entire." These words are truly befitting to Oskar Schindler and his actions during the Holocaust. For by saving the lives of his few Schindlerjuden he allowed new generations of these families to come into existence and leave their own mark upon the world. Now thanks to Thomas Keneally the story of one of the greatest heroes of the Holocaust, and perhaps of all time, will forever be preserved and remembered by the entire war....
