At first only the beatings provoke him to say he is a doctor, butlater when he realizes doctors can make excellent money that motivates him.This shows the greedy ways of man, disregarding people he could hurt in thename of personal glory and riches. His sences sharpen when he is offeredmoney, and he can think of ways out of his situations. A young man seeks Sgnarelle's help at the end of the book. He is in lovewith a young women for whom Sgnarelle is taking care of. He is in lovewither, but her father will not permit the marriage becuase the boy is toopoor.
