The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, also knows as the Endangered Species Act, was ratified by the United States January 14, 1974. This international agreement has helped protect endangered species in many countries by the countries agreeing to not allow commercial trade of wildlife species that are in danger of extinction. Mainly because of this agreement, South Africa has seen a growth in the elephant population. The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, also known as CCCD, is a preventive measure that coordinates the efforts of different countries to stop desertification, which is the degradation of arable, dry, land. Over 120 countries participated in this convention in 1996, which is important because almost a fourth of the global land is threatened to sub come to desertification. The G-7 Pilot Program for the Conservation of the Brazilian Rainforest, also knows as “PPG-7”, is a program that was created to help Brazil conserve rainforests.
