The United States Role in International Environmental Policies through Treaties

adopt a good environmental policy that benefits that region. The different hubs in Africa cover desertification, regional water management, sustainable management of tropical forests and wildlife, and pollution issues. The Mideastern Hub is responsible for regional cooperation on water resources and protection of the Gulf of Aqaba as part of the Mid East Peace process. The Central Asian Hub handles problems in the Aral Sea Basin. The Southeastern hub focuses on sustainable management of forest and biodiversity resource issues and the South American hub handles deforestation and biodiversity loss in the Amazon basin. The South Asian hub promotes regional cooperation for alternative energy, water sharing and environmental disaster preparedness. The Central American and Caribbean hub focuses on loss of forests and coastal zone management. The United States works with other countries through programs other than the regional hubs. The United States has entered into some bilateral commissions to work with other countries to develop polices to help the environment. Some countries the United States is in joint commissions with are: Ukraine, South Africa, Egypt, China, Brazil, Europe, India, Japan, and Mexico.Success only comes if international treaties reflect our domestic political realities. The media and public opinion helps policies succeed. If the people don’t support the policy, then it will not work. However, when agreeing to policies, we need to remember that policies have significant economic implications. The United States need to pay off our debt to the United Nation to show that we are willing to work with international organizations. We should increase foreign aid to programs in other countries that assist industry in term of environmental issues. We need to export environmentally sound technology to foreign countries.
