segregation but the process was slow. Riots broke out all over the country in the 50s and 60s with crisiss as well. This was when the Confederate flag was raised. Many believe the case of Brown vs Board of Educations decision to dismiss segregation caused the erection of the Confederate flag. Historians say rallying around the flag has proven common for whites to do when they feel threatened by outside forces. In the 1890s, Mississippi added the confederate flag to their state flag at about the same time they took votes away from the blacks in the area and started to construct monuments of confederacy and civil war in courthouses. An understanding as to why any of the proposals made have all failed cannot be reached. If a flag cannot unite its citizens then it should not be allowed to represent them. If the Confederate flag was raised to promote Southern Pride and honor confederate dead, what harm what it do being placed on the lawn instead of being the state flag. Our country was displaying their distaste of desegregation when the flag was raised....
