spends money on more unimportant things that are truly unneeded and undesired. The most serious example of public exposure to radiation from a nuclear power plant is, of course, Chernobyl. The explosion at Chernobyl blew radioactive gas and dust high into the atmosphere (Rhodes 93) Must we constantly focus on this disaster. When an airplane first crashed did the production of them stop or when we found out that insecticides cause cancer do we not still use it on household objects. Of course, there are risks, we all know of them but if we do not expand on nuclear energy, the cost of the alternatives I fear is much greater. Solar energy, which is always brought up for the substitute of nuclear energy, will also work but it is not much developed yet except for special circumstances because of its high cost. If we can get over the fear of the worst case scenario but only then could we appreciate the good of nuclear energy and how it will help us. Now that the misinterpretations have been explained maybe understanding the most certain future in nuclear energy is not that unrealistic....
