Divorce on Children

Divorce on Children has a very big impact on their lives. I know personally because I was a child of a divorced family. While growing up in a divorced family, many things affect a childs mental stage. In my experience, it was tough because my parents were the only parents that got a divorce out of all of my friends. When I was at a friends house, I felt awkward seeing a family together and knowing mine wasnt. Friends would ask me questions about my family; and I wasnt quite sure what to say. For example, my friends would ask me why my parents were divorced. This whole situation mad me feel different.Another problem I had when I was young was spending time at the other parents house. The first experience is so unreal; you dont know what to do or say. Its very weird seeing your mother living somewhere elses besides your home. Also, I have a brother and sister that lived with my mother while I lived with my father; it was tough not having them around. Everyday after school, we would be together; but after the divorce, it was no longer like that. When spending time with my mom or dad, each parent would ask me questions about each other. This situation was hard in a couple of ways. First, you didnt know what to say or believe. Second, I felt like I was in a situation where I had to pick a side; this made me feel depressed. Finally, the worst situation was when each parent began to date. Being the oldest child, but still young, I felt like the people my parents were dating were trying to take the other parents place. The worst part of this situation was when these people tried to tell me what to do. At my age, I thought it was unfair. As Im getting older, and a little wiser, I have a couple of opinions for parents that get divorced. First, keep the children out of it, and all discussion away from the children. Second, explain to the children that it isnt their fault; and always tell them that you love them....
