Global Divide Between Rich and Poor

r the past twenty years. The root of First World MNCs aggressive expansion into developing countries is cold, hard economic necessity: they are driven by profit and nothing else. Import-export statistics should give a clear indication as to who is winning. According to recent trends, it appears that the First World is exporting far more to the developing world than it imports. Still, the third world tries to catch-up, and still they find themselves without the means to do so. Remember that a failure to accumulate capital is the chief reason developing countries have lagged economically. But, all Countries need to rethink their social policies – for redistribution, for safety nets, for the universal provision of social services. The current debate focuses on the choice between a targeted, minimum cost approach, as in such countries as the United Kingdom and the United States, and a more universalist approach as in the Nordic countries and several continental European countries. Conclusion The gap between rich and poor, north and south, haves and have nots, grows every day. It grows between individuals, and it grows between countries. The growing interdependence of people’s lives calls for shared values and a shared commitment to the human development of all people. But, if we call for sharing the wealth, who will listen?...
