At first he thought this society was man's triumph that they live in peace but he learns later that the Eloi are being bred fattened up and eaten by the ant like people the Morlocks.Later the main character returned to check on his time machine and to his surprise it was gone. He began to panic, even when he fell down and hit his face which produced a trickling of blood didn't even pause.
