Marie Curie

er with her husband, Frdric Joliot, Irne, who had been working in the same laboratory and with the same relentless determination as her mother, discovered artificial radioactivity, for which she, too, was awarded the Nobel Prize. Marie Curie greatly contributed to medical science. Together with her husband, she discovered two elements, Radium and Polonium, and studied the x-rays they emitted. She found that the harmful properties of x-rays could be useful in medical treatment to kill tumors. Marie Curie contributed immensely to our understanding of radioactivity and the effect of the x-rays.Marie Curie's research greatly impacted the scientific world. Because of he work with radioactivity, radioactivity is now the starting point for cancer treatment, for the dating techniques used on ancient objects, and for molecular biology and modern genetics. Radioactivity is also the source of nuclear energy and the atomic bomb.I choose to write about Marie Curie because she was a successful female in a male dominated world. She was the 1st woman ever to win a Nobel Prize, and not only one but, two! Marie believed in herself inspite of the hardships she faced and I admire her perseverance. ...
