L-dopa as it is commonly called, helps replace the brain’s dopamine. It has been reported that brain surgery in some very severe cases have helped. Since there is no cure, Neurologists recommend that the person with this disease remain very active but also have a lot of rest and they also suggest physical therapy.People affected with Parkinson’s diseaseIt is believed that in North America alone, about a million people suffer from Parkinson’s disease and about 50,000 new cases are reported every year. Since the symptoms appear much later in our life, these figures are expected to grow. Although the disorder is more frequent in the older generation, it can still affect anyone. This has been proved recently by the announcement by Michael J. Fox, a TV star who is almost 40 that he has had the disease for a number of years.
