Philosophy100 When examining knowledge or a proper account, many factors have to be taken under consideration. What is a proper account? Obviously it is good evidence for belief; something which Descarteś has laid out for us by definition. His findings include being able to analyze the elements, listing them and telling how they fit together. My truck is black. I believe that there is water at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. I claim to know that my truck is black, but I only believe that there is water at the bottom of the Grand Canyon yet I can’t claim to know that it actually exists there. How could my truck be any other color? I possess the knowledge to know that my truck is black. On the receipt the color is black. The color distinctly matches any other accepted version of so-called black. Besides, even if I was color-blind, everyone else would know the true color. I have heard that there is water at the bottom of the Grand Canyon, but I’ve never seen it. I don’t know anybody that can verify that it is in fact true. I am aware that the Colorado River runs through it but I also know that some rivers are dry at times. My belief lacks hard, concrete evidence. I have no reason to believe it if I can’t see it with my own eyes. I believe that the Titanic is at the bottom of the North Atlantic but I can’t claim to know that it is actually resting there. I also know that my knowledge of my truck is knowledge rather than mere belief. I see no reason why I shouldn’t claim to know the color of my truck. Bibliography:
