Without the warthough, the process of solving these problems might never havebeen started, and the problems might never have been solved. In my opinion, the ending to The Pit and the Pendulum was not realistic because more time wasneeded for different things to happen the way they did. When the walls started to close in on theguy being tortured, the people outside of the place he was in, were fighting in some kind of battleto get through this place to save the guy. The hot iron walls were getting closer, and closer still,until they were so close that they were starting to burn him. Then just as the guy was about to fallinto the pit that the walls were pushing him towards, the people who were outside fighting, gotthrough and started to push the walls back. Just as he was about to fall in, an arm reached out andgrabbed him, saving him from his treacherous death. Now, in my opinion, this all could not havehappened that fast.
