areas such as percentage favoring lower voting age, and percentage favoring a lower drinking age. They tend to be more for the preservation of personal freedom and it seems that they smoke marijuana as a way to portray their views of personal freedom. In this study they decide that marijuana use relates more to the personal concerns of the person rather than society of a whole. Also Clark and Levine (1972,301) quote “The teenage marijuana user in our sample appears to be more likely than this straight counterpart to want to do his won thing or to be free from institutional restrictions on his conduct, to resent those who enforce these restrictions, and to combine these attitudes with feelings of political alienation, but only when his attitudes and behavior are congruent”. The Authoritarianism-Rebellion Scale was the scale used in Paul Kohn’s article about drug use and the rebellion dimension. Paul Kohn also has written an article dealing with this scale. It deals with the personalities of those who are leftist, rightist, and Conservative-Liberalism; religious preference, and frequency of church attendance; and membership in five student political groups with generally clear positions on the ideological left-right dimension. Overall I learned several new ideas and concepts that I had not thought of or heard of before. Such as the A-R Scale, which I find, to be a rather sufficient measure as applied to the drug motive model. I noticed some new concepts involving the hippie culture and how to apply those characteristics and to study them and improve the efficiency of such a model. However, I will have to study the A-R scale much more in order to fully understand its inner workings, factors, and possible applications.
