Rates are highest in North America and northern Europe, intermediate in southern Europe and Latin America, and lowest in Asia and South America.Family history- An inherited tendency to develop breast cancer accounts for about 5 percent to 10 percent of cases. If you have a strong family history of breast cancer, your chance of developing breast cancer may be as high as 1 in 2. Defects in either of two genes - BRCA1 and BRCA2 - increase your risk of inherited forms of breast cancer.Both men and women can inherit and pass on defective BRCA genes.
