Factory and business owners have theability to prevent air pollution. Air pollution is thepresence in the atmosphere of harmful gases, liquids, orsolids. Air pollution, known as smoke pollution for manyyears, resulted from coal combustion. Smog gas been aproblem in coal burning areas for several centuries. Smogfinally decreased when coal combustion was replaced by oiland gas combustion. Air pollution is caused by a number ofdifferent types of pollutants. The first type, particulatematter, consist of solid and liquid aerosois suspended inthe atmosphere. The second type is sulfur oxides which comefrom the burning of coal and industrial processes. The thirdtype of pollutant is carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide iscolorless, odorless, tasteless gas against which humans haveno protection. The fourth type is hydrocarbons which arechemical compounds containing only carbon and hydrogen. Thelast type is nitrogen oxides that come form high temperaturecombustion, such as that occurring in motor vehicle engines,electric power plants and other fuel usage. All thesepollutants are destroying our planet in front of our eyesand there isnt much were are doing. Acid RainAcid rain is a serious problem with disastrous effects.Each day this serious problem increases, many people believethat this issue is too small to deal with right now. Thisissue should be met head on and solved before it is toolate. Acid rain is a cancer eating into the face of EasternCanada and the North Eastern United States. On both sides ofthe border, cars and trucks are the main sources for nitricacid , while power generating plants and industrialcommercial and residential fuel combustion togethercontribute most of the rest.
