m their guilt.Lady Macbeth shows the most vivid example of guilt with theuse of the imagery of blood, in the scence that she is sleep walking. She says:Out damned spot! Out I say! One: two: why then tis timeio do t: hell is murky. Fie, my lord, a soldier, and afeard? What need we fear who knows it when none can call outpower to account? Yet who have thought the old man to havehad so much blood in him?All these references in the quotation are to murder and both includeddirect references to blood, again limking blood to treachery andmurder. Yet this speech represent the fact that she cannot wipe thatblood satins of Duncan off her hands. It is ironic that she says this,because it is right after the murder, when Macbeth was feeling guilty,she said, A little water clears us of this deed. When the doctor forthe castle finds out that Lady Macbeth sleep walks and has dreamsthat are about blood he tells Macbeth. Macbeth now knows that she ishaving trobles with her guilt. Almost at the conclusion of the playMacbeth has Macduff at his mercy but lets him go due to his guilt. Heshows that he is guilty, when he says, But get thee back, ny soul istoo much chargd with blood of thine already. Then Macduff replies,I have no words, my voice is in my sword, thou bloodier villian thatterm can gives thee out. After the death of Macbeth at the hands odMacduff, the imagery of blood seings back to what is was at thebeginning of the play. But, itis the honor of Malcolm this time.
