We terrify parents and children about strangers, so much that we freak out if a grandfather smiles at another persons child at a park; or a stranger offers to tie a child's shoelace. "Cutting off children from potential friendships of strangers has the effect of further burdening the already burdened parent whom will become more abusive as they become more isolated in their 24 hour child care responsibility (Bender et al. 2) Isolation is the worst state for humans as we are social creatures. There are societies where there is no child abuse. These are societies where raising children is a community responsibility (Kalichman 345) Child abuse and the response to child abuse to African American children and other minorities is a very different story. Does a black child who is being abuse get the same attention as a white child? Black children are constantly giving the message that they do not and will not ever be valued or make a difference in society. They are less likely to report child abuse because if they do not matter then why should it matter that they are being abused (Jackson 1). If African Americans could be bought, sold and Murderderd then why not abused? This is what is even sadder for African American children, no self worth and fear on top of that. And look whom they have to report to if they do ask for help, white people who are inadequately qualified to deal with different cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
