The U'wa's are a native who are indangered. Since April 1992, a American based oil company Occidental petroleum was granted drilling rights, Shell was also grated drilling rights by the Colombian government. The U'wa all agreed that if any oil company started drilling on their ancestrial land that they would all jump off a sacrid cliff that according to the U'wa oral histories , a portion of the tribecommitted mass suicide rather then surrender to the Conquistadores. A strong supporter Terence Freitas went to Colombia for his forth trip, after meeting with the U'wa to descuss what they should do about Oxy (Occental). As he was leaving with two native women who Terence had brought from America to set up a school system, the U'wa wanted a school system for the children to learn Spanish and English. The U'wa speak their origenal leanguege. As Ingrid, Terence, Lahe'ena'e were in a car on their way back to the air port they were stopped by men with guns and macks to cover their faces and said to the U'wa that the three must go for three hours with the men. The U'wa had no choice so once the time came and it was three or four hours later the U'wa began the journey to find the three in the direction the van had went they walked for days. In America it was reported as a kidnap and a week later just over the Colombian border into Venezuela the three bodies were found of Ingrid Washinawatok,Lahe'ena'e Gay,Terence Freitas, it was an international loss of three great leaders. The were morning the loss of the three who had came to help but had been taken from our world, doing what they had passion for helping others. When the FARC the (armed forces of Colombia) a rebal groupe, normaly they groupe would hold people for ransom. What was the catch? The oil company Occental pays the FARC to escourt them in and out of the cloud forests. By then Shell had backed out of the project because of to much publisity. At this time Colombia gets millitary aid from America. The Colombian army often raid the streets leaving homelees children dead since the children's parrents have already been killed. This is what happeneds with our millitary aid and the other part of the money is used to spot Coca (Marawina)fields and pour gasses on them. Mean while the struggle goes on against Occental last month there was a court interjunktion that Oxy could'nt drill, then Oxy went up against the interjunktion and got back thier permit. Even though supporters raised money and the U'wa bought the land from the pesants. Which had always been their land the government claims that he owns the mineral and gas rights under the ground. Recently before the drilling permit the U'wa made a peaceful blockaid against the equipment that was trying to go through for the drilling project so the Colombian police came and puched the U'wa back into a running river three children drowned one only an infaint all the government does is deney the three children drowned when the U'wa found the bodies. Right now every one is waiting for the next move from Occental the U'wa talked through satalight phone to local La based inviromental groupes and said that they will make a blockaid if the michinery starts comming through.
