Full Moon
Full Moon In Full Moon, Michael Light tries to show his readers what the moon looks and feels like. Light makes up a mission starting with the lift off all the way to the return to earth. During the mission Light uses descriptions and photographs for his tour of the moon. Real Astronauts were sent to the moon to take these pictures of the moon. Light had to work with what they brought back. Yet, most pictures are really clear and the descriptions are pretty good. Light helps the reader understand the moon with images including the moon growing, shrinking, and other space walk pictures. Full Moon ends with an original essay written by Andrew Chaikin, the author of A Man on the Moon. Michael Light also adds his comments and notes of the photographs and essay. I think this book presents an amazing opportunity to perceive the moon close up without actually being there. The astronauts took amazing photographs allowing for normal people to see what they saw. I learned a lot of information about both the Gemini and Apollo programs and how close NASA came to scrapping them after the loss of Apollo 1. Also, it made me realize how important the space race was to the US and the world. It ushered in a whole new era in rocket technology and general technological advancement. It also made for a new sense of national ethnocentrism. I would recommend this book to anyone that would like to know what the moon is like and to see it second hand. This is probably the closest way of visiting the moon without being an astronaut. Bibliography:
