Personality Assessment
Personality Assessment After completing the assessment exercise I have been able to carefully my personality. The exercise consisted of an evaluation of four areas: Locus of Control, Personality Type, Stress Reactions, and Learning Styles. Based on the test results my locus of control is external. According to our text, Individuals who fall into this category do not believe that their future is within their control. They believe that it is more influenced by external forces. I agree somewhat with this assessment of myself. Although I also feel that some portions of our lives can be influenced greatly by our own inner desires and motivations. My interests are also centered on the outside world. This is consistent with the description at the end of the exercise. I thrive in situations where I can be around and mingle with large groups of people. I grew up in a very large family and this helped to shape my personality. However, I do enjoy quiet time and occasionally working on my own. My personality type is Extroverted, intuitive, feeling, perceptive or ENFP. According to the description in the exercise, ENFP’s are warm, enthusiastic and live their outer life more with intuition and their inner more with feeling. This assessment is consistent with the results that I received in part I of the exercise. I am an extroverted person who enjoys being around and working with people. I am an intuitive-feeling personality. I am charismatic, participative and very people oriented. I tend to focus on the big picture and not the small specifics. I am not power hungry and try to be helpful and giving to those around me. There are two types of stress behaviors. Type A and B. My stress personality type is B+. My score was 49 on a scale of 20 – 100. Type B personalities prefer to move at a slower pace than type A’s. They are less competitive, more patient and experience less health problems. I have taken a similar test in the past. At that time my score was very similar to the current test. I definitely agree with the description of my personality. For the most part I am very patient. I like to make the most use of my time. However, I don’t mind working at a slower pace. As I mentioned earlier, I am a B+. This means that I scored higher on the Type B scale. This can be attributed to my competitive side. I enjoy competition in many areas of my life including work, home and school. I am constantly challenging myself to even outdo my own experiences. For example, I will attempt to clean the house in a fraction of the time as before. My competitive nature has very early roots in my life. I am the fifth child in a large family of six. Overall, I live a fairly low-stress lifestyle. The majority of the stressful encounters that I experience are self-imposed (e.g. Waiting until the day before to study for a test). In those instances I can’t and don’t get upset because I could have controlled the situation. I believe in deep breath exercises and meditation. This is especially helpful in a challenging situation. For the most part, I have a very laid back and mild-mannered temperament. I have a Converger learning style. This represents a combination of doing and thinking. Convergers prefer to learn by doing and thinking. I like to be involved and am a hands-on individual. We are very good at reasoning, solving problems and decision-making. I don’t mind going out on a limb and being adventurous. I actually prefer to jump right in and try a solution or idea without analyzing it first. I don’t like to over analyze a situation. However, I have been known to make decisions too quickly. This can sometimes be detrimental in the wrong situation. Although I scored the highest in the feeling category, I was a borderline thinker. My converger learning style prefers to deal with tasks in a hands-on manner. This assessment is very much in line with the career path that I have chosen. I am a corporate software trainer for a wholesale tour operator. My students are retail travel and our internal personnel. I conduct both classroom and one-on-one training. I love the face-to-face contact with my students. I also enjoy the technical aspect of my job. I feel that based on my personality and learning style that I would work best in an organization where I could be involved a team management situation. I am very committed to and take pride in my work. I can be self-directed and will not need a hands-on manager. I have worked in situations in the past where I have been micromanaged by a superior. It greatly affected the quality of my work and my motivation level. I also want to be involved in the goal setting process for the company and myself. Although I enjoy working with people, I need a high degree of independence to flourish. I also want to work with a manager who is interested in creating a motivating environment. Positive reinforcement is the tool that appeals to me the most. I would like to be rewarded as I achieve a goal or set a new standard. I work well in group situations. I always try to encourage all members to participate and contribute. It is interesting to note that in most situations, I tend to be one of the group leaders. I do have a strong personality. Yet I try not to come across as controlling or bossy. Bibliography:
