There was a survey done in the early 1980s where professional athletes were asked would they take a drug that would guarantee them a gold medal in the Olympics. But at the same time knock 10 years off of their life. Surprisingly almost all of those asked answered yes. Illustrating how we have become a society where winning is everything.While all of the people that I have known to use steroids have strictly done it for physical appearance. There are huge amounts of athlete that are trying to gain that extra advantage over the competition.It seems that many people do experiment with steroids just to see if they will have any positive effects for them. Just this past weekend I went to a friends house for a party. There were two individuals there, one who was at the moment I suspected of steroid use, while the other, who I had suspected of being on before but had since stopped. The reason that I knew that he had stopped was that he had lost about 25 pounds of muscle in the past few months. A conversation took place where I asked both individuals what they thought about the use of steroids. In which both parties denied ever using, or even thinking about the use. I find this quite odd, as several other parties took part in the conversation. With questions being raised such as how could they explain their massive gains and losses in such a short time? I found that there were no satisfactory answers. One funny thing was that I was asked whether or not my original friend had taken steroids, my response was that I did not know. I still talk to all of my friends who have in the past or continue to use steroids. I wonder what will be the outcome of their abuse to their bodies. Most claim that the risks to be minimal.
