Formula one

Formula one Formula one is the fastest racing car in the world. It is called the greatest car show in the world. Formula one has a great influence on the people. Millions of people sit in front of the TV set or around the circuit and watch the race. The drivers are often called kings of speed and they show their ability to drive fast every second week of the season. People wondered about this racing many years ago. The cars were very different from today’s formula ones. The question of safety and also the atmosphere of racing was different. It was a risk to drive so fast and a lot of tragic accidents happened. Also the rules have been changed since the first race was held. The rules are very strict today for safety. According to the rules, there are several races before the main race. They are called training heats and they are two or one day before the race. One day before the race there is a Qualifying heat. According to the Qualifying heat, the drivers take their place on the grid. In front of the starting line there is a driver who has won the qualifying – he has a pole position. The drivers reach very high speed immediately after start and a lot of accidents happens. The safety car appears when an accident happens. Drivers must drive behind the safety car slowly and they cannot overtake each other. When someone doesn’t obey the rules he has a penalty. It means that he must take a few seconds pit stop. When a F1 team and its drivers want to succeed, they must have a good team strategy. It means that the team management must plan everything important. They decide whether to use hard or soft tires, how many pit stops the driver should have, how much fuel to take, which driver is number one on the team… Today’s top teams have very good strategies which are different in every race. The best teams are McLaren, Ferrari, Jordan, Williams F1 and than less successful Stewart, Arrows, Minardi… The drivers of McLaren are Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard. The strategy in this team is very interesting. The drivers can compete between each other even when Mika is number one! So David can take points which can make Mika winner of the season. The drivers of Ferrari are Michael Schumacher and Eddie Irvine. And the strategy? No.2 has to support No.1. My favorite team is Jordan Mugen Honda whose drivers are H.H.Frentzen and Damon Hill. The team’s strategy must adapt to each Grand Prix. There are several Grand Prix with different circuits during the season. For instance GP of Germany, Italy, Monaco, Canada, Europe, Hungary, Austria and Japan. The current season in 1999 has a special new Grand Prix of Malaysia which was held last week. First was Eddie Irvine, second Michael Schumacher. Current rank of drivers is: Eddie Irvine, Mika Hakkinen, H.H.Frentzen and David Coulthard. In constructor’s cup, the first is McLaren, the second Ferrari and the third Jordan. Before the last GP in Japan the silver color of McLaren leads before the red of Ferrari. The colors of formula ones help to identify them but there is also the other side. It is the business. Every team has its sponsor. They are mostly tobacco concerns which produce cigarettes. Their logos are on their F1 racing cars and from this advertising the drivers and teams are paid. There are also some problems wit cigarette advertising because in some countries it is not allowed. The chief of Formula 1 threatens that he will abolish Grand Prix in these countries. The cigarette concerns appears also in the name of the team. The full names are: West McLaren Mercedes, Marlboro Scuderia Ferrari and Benson and Hedges Jordan Mugen Honda. Mercedes, Ferrari and Mugen Honda are the names of engine-contractor. My favorite colors are yellow and black colors of the team Jordan. My favorite driver is Heinz Harald Frentzen who won two Grand Prix this season. One week ago he had a chance to be the winner of the season but he was not successful in the last race. The Formula 1 is more and more about business but has a lot of devoted fans. Bibliography:
